TL;DR: PriceSpy works entirely inside your browser. The products you track, their price history and your settings are stored in chrome.storage.local on your own device. PriceSpy has no backend server, makes no network requests of its own, has no user accounts, and collects no analytics or telemetry. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
PriceSpy does not collect, transmit or store any personal information on external servers. There is no account, no login, no advertising identifier and no analytics SDK. The only data PriceSpy handles is the data it needs to work, and it stays on your device:
All of the above is written to chrome.storage.local inside your browser profile.
PriceSpy does not use your data for advertising, profiling, credit scoring or any purpose unrelated to price tracking.
PriceSpy does not call any price API. When it needs a fresh price, it reads the price from the product page you already have open in a tab, using a content script. If a product page is not open, PriceSpy simply waits until it is — it never fetches a page in the background. Because of this, no browsing data ever leaves your browser.
We do not sell, rent or share any data with third parties. PriceSpy contains no third-party analytics, no tracking pixels, no remote scripts and no advertising networks. The extension does not embed any remote code — all JavaScript is bundled in the package.
PriceSpy requests the following Chrome permissions. Each one is required for a specific, user-visible feature:
| Permission | Why PriceSpy needs it |
|---|---|
storage |
Save your tracked products, price history and settings locally in your browser. |
notifications |
Show a system notification when a tracked product's price drops to or below your target price. |
alarms |
Run the scheduled price check at the interval you choose in Settings (30 minutes to 12 hours; default: every 60 minutes). Without this, checks could not run on a schedule. |
activeTab |
Read the product details of the page in the current tab when you click the PriceSpy toolbar icon, so a new item can be tracked in one click. |
tabs |
Read the URL of your open tabs so PriceSpy can tell which of your tracked products currently have their product page open, and refresh the price from that already-open page. Tab URLs are compared in memory on your device against the URLs of products you explicitly chose to track; they are never stored as a browsing history, never logged, and never transmitted or uploaded anywhere. |
scripting |
Inject the price-extraction content script into a product page that is already open, so the current price can be read from the page you are looking at. |
host_permissions |
Limited to the supported storefronts: amazon.com, amazon.cn, ebay.com, walmart.com, taobao.com, tmall.com, jd.com and jd.hk. This is what allows PriceSpy to recognise a product page and read its price on those sites only — it grants no access to any other website. |
PriceSpy does not request history, bookmarks, downloads, cookies, webRequest or <all_urls>, and it has no access to your passwords, form data or clipboard.
Tracked products, price history and settings remain in your browser until you delete them. You can remove any individual tracked product (and its recorded price history) from the popup at any time, and you can remove everything at once by uninstalling PriceSpy — uninstalling the extension deletes its chrome.storage.local data with it. Because PriceSpy has no server, there is no remote copy of your data to request deletion of.
Because all data stays inside Chrome's extension storage on your device, its security is bounded by the security of your own browser profile and device. PriceSpy does not hold any credentials, does not require an account and has no server that could be breached. We recommend keeping your operating system and Chrome up to date and not sharing your browser profile with untrusted users.
PriceSpy is a general-purpose shopping utility. It is not directed at children and, since it collects no personal information at all, it does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same location and the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's release notes on the Chrome Web Store.
Limited Use compliance: PriceSpy's use of any information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide or improve the single, user-facing purpose described above (price tracking and price-drop alerts). It is not sold, not transferred to third parties, not used for advertising, and not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
